How to Charge Your Electric Vehicle at Home
Start Charging
Ensure the charger is powered on
Check for indicator lights on the charger.
Plug in the Charging Cable (Charging will start automatically)
Monitor the charger display or vehicle dashboard to confirm the charging session has started.
Stop Charging & Unplug
Press “Stop” on the charger OR Unlock the car.
Some EVs lock the charging cable automatically, and also stop charging when unlocking.
Gently remove the charging plug from the vehicle. (Store the cable properly to keep it clean and prevent damage.)
- If an AC home charger is switched on, it will draw 32A. Under these circumstances mentioned above the home will still have 8A spare.
- While the car is charging, the customer now switches on an aircon that draws
- an extra 15A. This will trip their main breaker as they only had 8spare. If an Energy Guard was installed, the charger would have been aware of the fact that the home did not have enough capacity and would have throttled itself to only draw 25A instead of 32A. This would have avoided the home’s main breaker from tripping when the aircon was switched on. If the aircon is subsequently switched off, then the charger will automatically adjust from the 25A back to the maximum of 32A (Unless the customer has manually throttled it or set a charging schedule on the app).

Dynamic load balancing will ensure that if the customer’s home has limited power capacity, that the charger will not be responsible for tripping the main breaker of their home.
Once the home’s capacity limit has been reached, the charger will be aware of this fact and throttle itself to not push the site over the limit.
